Time for a New Start? There are Career Opportunities in Robotics!

January 1, 2022

There’s a reason you’re here right now reading this article. Something about that headline caught your attention. Maybe the career path that seemed so exciting when you first embarked on it is starting to feel a little bit stale. Maybe you’re sitting there at your desk this very minute, a spreadsheet opened in another tab, and wondering if you made a wrong turn somewhere. Maybe you’ve discovered that desk life just isn’t what you thought it would be.

The good news is that what you’re going through right now is completely normal. The world is vast, and there are so many things out there to experience and be a part of. The yearning for change is something that many of us have felt multiple times in our lives. It’s what drives us to new adventures.

The even better news is that there’s a career opportunity in robotics that’s basically just waiting for you to take it.

Why a Career in Robotics?

So you might be asking yourself why you’d want a career in robotics. “What’s so dang special about robots?!” you’re asking. We’re happy to answer!

Robotics is a field that exists on the very cutting edge of modern technology. In manufacturing, specifically, robots are being integrated into processes all across the country and the world. Not only that, but these robots are continuously pushing forward in terms of capabilities, and the career possibilities that are opening up for the future are growing right alongside that advancement.

These robots come in different shapes and sizes. Many are gargantuan stationary machines. Others are smaller mobile robots that move from place to place carrying loads and performing a variety of tasks around the manufacturing floor.

They’re not taking jobs away from people, though. They’re actually creating more job openings than ever. You see, these robots need workers to operate along with them. They need operators, troubleshooters, and experts who can maintain them.

That’s where you come in .

But Isn’t It Too Late for Me?

This line of thinking is a big part of the reason why the demand for skilled robotics workers is so high. Many people are under the misconception that they need a 4-year college degree to work with robots. They think that the requirements will just be too much for them to switch to such a rewarding career at a later stage in their professional lives.

Well, you can discard that notion right now.

The truth is you don’t need an expensive degree-driven education to be a robotics worker. You don’t have to get your PhD in engineering or any of that.

For an entry level position as a robotics technician, you generally only need an associate’s degree or a trade school certification. That’s because so much of what a technician does is based on mechanical skill and training. It’s a career that involves a lot of on-the-job training, rather than academia.

Not only are the prerequisites less demanding than you might think, but the pay is pretty great too. Robotics technicians make, on average, upwards of $56,000 a year. It can also be a lot more.

From there, you have a lot of room for advancement to a robotics specialist or even an integrator if you want.

The bottom line is that the field is wide open for you to make your own path through it. Demand is higher than ever for people to work with robots in manufacturing, and there’s never been a better time to take advantage of that demand and create a whole new career for yourself.
