Here's What Students Can Do With RoboticsCareer.org

April 20, 2022

We built RoboticsCareer.org for the purpose of filling jobs in the field of robotics in manufacturing. The fact is that the increased presence of robots on the manufacturing floor is creating a lot of robotics job openings, but there simply aren’t enough skilled workers to fill those openings.

RoboticsCareer.org works as a sort of point of confluence for those looking to get into the field, education providers who can teach those people the skills and knowledge they need, and employers looking to upskill or retrain their workforce.

In this article, we’re going to focus specifically on how students can use RoboticsCareer.org to find education programs that best fit their needs.

Learn About Career Pathways in Robotics

Before starting your journey in robotics, it’s a good idea to have a specific role in mind. This will allow you to choose an education path that best prepares you for that career goal.

In manufacturing, there are three general roles along the career pathway: the robotics technician, the robotics specialist, and the robotics integrator. All three are essential parts of the robotics field with complimentary, but distinct skills and training requirements.

The robotics technician job is closest to what we’d call an “entry level” position in robotics. Robotics technicians are responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting the robots, as well as operating and working with them on a day-to-day basis. A robotics technician job generally requires a 2-year degree in a relevant field or a trade school certification to get started. So, if you’re been worrying about needing a lot of education to get into robotics, now you know that’s not the case.

Robotics specialists are tasked with understanding and maintaining a manufacturer’s entire robotic system. That is, they have a strong working knowledge of how each robot interacts with the process, and they use this knowledge to determine where and how new robots would improve process flow. They need to be skilled in inspection/QA, advanced robot programming, installation concepts, safety-risk assessment and more.

Robotics integrators are considered the top of the skills and knowledge pyramid in the robotics field.  They are the subject matter experts on automation and help a manufacturer determine the best opportunities to leverage robotics, automation and artificial intelligence in their manufacturing environment. Ultimately, they help evaluate, design, and implement plans for future automation.

More and more manufacturers are hiring integrators to keep on-staff.

The integrator and specialist roles will require more education up-front if you’re looking to enter the field as one, but there’s nothing stopping you from starting out as a robotics technician and learning and working your way up to a higher tier role.

You can learn more about the specific skill requirements of each of the roles on RoboticsCareer.org.

Find Robotics Programs that Are a Perfect Fit for You

The standout feature for those looking to work in robotics is our education search tool. Located at the top of our home page, this tool allows education seekers to search from thousands of training programs all around the country to find the best match.

You can enter in a program keyword, along with your city and state, and the results will show all of the relevant programs in the area you entered. From there, you can refine the search results with filters like “program format (online, in-person, hybrid)” and certification earned.

If you don’t know which keywords you’re looking for, simply entering the area you’re looking in and leaving the keywords field blank will show all of our verified robotics programs in your area.

Also, every program in our database has been thoroughly vetted to meet our standards, so there are no duds here.

Once you’ve found a program that matches what you’re looking for, you can scroll to the bottom of the information panel to find a link to that program’s homepage, from which you can learn more and find out how to register.

Now Is the Time to Work in Robotics

Robotics is an exciting career for several reasons.

Firstly, the evolving nature of robotics makes it interesting. Robots are among the most technologically advanced creations of humankind, and they’re constantly evolving in complexity and capability. By working with robots, you’re spending your career on the very cutting edge of technology. As new milestones are met with new advancements, like robotic vision and artificial intelligence, you get to see these innovations put into action.

Secondly, the field is wide open for newcomers. There is a huge demand for robotics workers, and this trend is going to continue. Entering your robotics career path today will position you to be a leader in robotics tomorrow.

Also, the requirements aren’t as time-consuming or costly as you might think. Like we mentioned earlier, entry-level roles such as robotics technicians generally require a 2-year degree or trade school certification, as much of the skills and knowledge will come from actual on-the-job learning. Of course, a strong desire to work with robots is also recommended.

Simply put, there’s no better time to get into a robotics career. With the RoboticsCareer tools at your disposal, it’s also never been easier to get started. Don’t wait! Get searching!
