North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCAT) is a public, historically black research university in Greensboro, North Carolina and a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina System. With an enrollment of over 12,754 students, North Carolina A&T is the largest historically black university in the U.S. According to U.S. News & World Report, the university is ranked sixth nationally among historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and first among public HBCUs. The university's College of Engineering has consistently ranked first in the nation for the number of degrees awarded to African Americans, and is a leading producer of African-American engineers with master's and doctoral degrees. North Carolina A&T offers 54 undergraduate, 29 master's, and 9 doctoral degrees through its eight colleges, one school, and one joint school. As of 2019, the university conducts over $64.3 million in academic and scientific research annually, and operates 20 research centers and institutes on campus. It is classified as a high research activity university by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.
