The University of Minnesota, Twin Cities is a public land-grant research university in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota. The Twin Cities campus comprises locations in Minneapolis and St. Paul approximately 3 miles apart, and the St. Paul location is in neighboring Falcon Heights. With an enrollment of over 50,000 students, it is the flagship institution of the University of Minnesota system, and is organized into 19 colleges, schools, and other major academic units. As a research university, UMN gives students in all majors the opportunity to participate in research alongside professors who are leaders in their fields. It is ranked 17th in research activity, with $954 million in research and development expenditures in 2018.

The University of Minnesota offers bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees, as well as post-baccalaureate certificates, in fields such as mechanical engineering, computer science, manufacturing operations management, data science, electrical engineering, industrial and systems engineering, and biomedical engineering. Students pursuing a post-baccalaureate certificate program can later transfer their credits to the M.S. degree in the same field. Instruction is delivered either on-site or in a hybrid format.
