Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is a public research university in Richmond, Virginia. VCU was founded in 1838 as the medical department of Hampden–Sydney College, becoming the Medical College of Virginia in 1854. In 1968, the Virginia General Assembly merged MCV with the Richmond Professional Institute, founded in 1917, to create Virginia Commonwealth University. In 2018, more than 31,000 students pursue 217 degree and certificate programs through VCU's 11 schools and three colleges. The VCU Health System supports the university's health care education, research, and patient care mission.

The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) College of Engineering strives to provide robotic students with a well-rounded educational experience. In addition to meeting rigorous academic demands, our students find time to be active in research and student organizations, allowing them to develop leadership and collaborative skills both in and outside the classroom. You will find students studying in groups throughout the halls of the College of Engineering. The college’s team environment helps students stay focused as they tackle difficult projects and engage in group projects. Often, you will come across “solutions in progress” on the dry erase boards, strategically placed throughout the building.
